NEW YORK -- More than a dozen people have been accused of staging fake real estate closings and impersonating homeowners to steal $1 million from mortgage companies, according to Queens prosecutors.
Prosecutors said Thursday that three lawyers, an unlicensed real estate broker, a title closer and 12 other people were indicted. People were allegedly paid up to $500 to pose as home buyers and owners in meetings with mortgage companies.
