If tomorrow night's boxing matches at the Rosemont Horizon seemlike the kind of bouts usually held at the Forum in Inglewood,Calif., that's because one of the promoters is Jerry Buss, who ownsthe Forum and regularly promotes fights there when his NBA Lakersare out of town.
The main event pits junior middleweights Quincy Taylor (14-2)against Armando Rodriguez (18-3-1). Taylor was considered a goodprospect until being stopped in six rounds by former World BoxingCouncil welterweight champion Jorge Vacca in the Forum Oct. 8. Avictory for Taylor should secure a rematch with Vacca.
Both Taylor and Rodriguez have well-rounded skills, but Taylorfavors a hard-punching attack that has brought him 11 KOs.Rodriguez, despite his 15 KOs, prefers to box.
Jesus Chong (13-1) will meet Francisco Montiel (22-9) in anInternational Boxing Council flyweight junior title fight. Chong, whose father is Chinese and mother is Mexican, is known as theChinese Tiger. All his wins are by KO.
A "special attraction" will pit Hillside junior welterweightLouie Lomeli (29-1) against Ramon Zavala (13-5). Lomeli has addedlateral movement and an improved jab to his swarming style.
