Soc: Australia and Iraq locked up at halftime
ATHENS, Aug 21 AAP - Australia and Iraq were locked at 0-0 at halftime in their Olympic
soccer quarter-final tonight.
The Olyroos probably shaded the Iraqis in the first half, coming home strongly with
several goalscoring opportunities.
Their best chance came in the 29th minute when a header by Anthony Danze, used in this
match for the suspended Tim Cahill, sliced across the goalmouth.
Tall defender Adrian Madaschi and forward John Aloisi also had chances in front of goal.
The Iraqis had a handful of opportunities from free kicks but failed to pose a consistent
threat to the Australian defence after the first 20 minutes.
Once again the Olyroos trod a fine line with yellow cards, Madaschi earning one after
four minutes and Jon McKain picking one up 17 minutes later.
Iraqi captain Abdul Wahab Abu Al Hail received a yellow card for a clumsy elbow on
Luke Wilkshire.
